It is with distinct pleasure that I write this letter in support of the Hearts of Fire Project, which is giving voice to homeless families and individuals across the United States. When I was first contacted by their representative about our agency partnering with Hearts of Fire, I was intrigued by the concept and was excited about the possibilities. As time went on and the planning became more intense, I was impressed with the diligence exhibited by their staff.

The Hearts of Fire visit to Community of Hope, Girard Street, proved to be a huge success. At that time, almost all of our families were new to our shelter and to our program, so it was unclear how they would respond to this opportunity, but I am thrilled to report that everything went very well! Residents, from young to old, felt comfortable with the Hearts of Fire staff, and they were thrilled to be given the opportunity to express themselves through art and music.

Homelessness is a grossly misunderstood phenomenon in our country, and programs like this allow the general population to be enlightened about it. Hearts of Fire gives voice to homeless children and adults, allowing them to tell their stories and to share their emotions. It is through wonderful programs such as this that our society is given the opportunity to learn about and to support those less fortunate.

I wish to thank Bob Ballard and his staff for bringing Hearts of Fire to our shelter and to our residents.
