Hearts Of Fire Project Competes to Win GlobalGiving’s “American Open” Challenge

Local nonprofit has chance to receive short and long term “economic stimulus” for empowering homeless people via innovative online marketplace for philanthropy

Ojai, CA – The Hearts Of Fire Project today joined GlobalGiving’s American Open, a fundraising challenge where American Non-Profits can win up to $6,000 in extra funding to help support their mission during these harsh economic times. The Project is also eligible for a permanent spot on GlobalGiving.com, the internationally recognized marketplace for philanthropy that connects individual donors to the causes they care most about.

GlobalGiving is opening up its network of donors and corporate partners in an effort to support American non-profits like the Hearts Of Fire Project that are providing much needed support to their local communities throughout the economic downturn.

American Open participants will raise funds through GlobalGiving.com from June 8th –30th. The three projects that raise the most will receive awards of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000, respectively; the project receiving the most individual donations will receive an additional $3,000.

Organizations participating in the challenge can also earn a permanent spot on the GlobalGiving website if they successfully mobilize supporters to raise $4,000 from at least 50 unique donors through GlobalGiving during the contest.

If the Hearts Of Fire Project wins, it will also gain free access to innovative web 2.0 fundraising tools and connect to a broad network of thousands of donors and corporate and foundation partners already engaged in the GlobalGiving network.

“Local non-profits like the Hearts Of Fire Project are deeply important to the well-being of communities all around America, especially when folks are struggling,” said Mari Kuraishi, President and Co-Founder of GlobalGiving. “Many of our donors are looking for opportunities here in the U.S. and we want to do everything we can to match the demand with the unbelievable need around the country. It is especially the small, grassroots efforts and creative innovators that do not have the institutional support from bigger institutions that we hope to help.”
